OUR STORY

OUR HISTORY

“I opened a small teashop in 1993. It was authentic and healthy. Today, Oriental Teahouse combines the authentic and healthy benefits of tea with Yum Cha culture. In fact, we were one of the first to introduce yum cha and tea to Melbourne. Oriental Teahouse is colourful and modern, but still remains authentic.” - David Zhou

Our South Yarra Restaurant opened in 2003, and since then we have opened Melbourne CBD and Brunswick for Take Away.

OUR STORY

our tea

In Shanghai, teahouses are where life happens. They’re a central place of interaction; loud, bustling, filled with aroma, smoke, conversation and laughter. People come together over a pot of tea. The way the tea is poured is equal in each cup symbolizes the equality for all parties involved.

As for our tea, each signature blend is hand-crafted by Oriental Teahouse founder David Zhou. Since moving from Shanghai to Melbourne David has dedicated his life to understanding the holistic healing properties of different teas, creating blends that are as beneficial for the body as they are on the taste buds.

OUR STORY

our food

Dim Sum (or Dian Xin which translates to ‘touch of the heart’) are authentic and delicious parcels of joy. Yum Cha is the custom of eating tiny servings of different dishes whilst sipping on freshly brewed tea, typically with lots of variety. Oriental Teahouse was one of the first places serving Yum Cha in Melbourne 7 days a week.

On special days (like Mothers Day), we serve on traditional yum cha trollies that roam the venue boasting a variety of over 40 dishes such as our famous dumplings; XO Scallop & Prawn, Roast Duck, Chilli Wagyu Beef, or other treasured dishes such as Crackling Roast Pork Belly and Chilli Salt & Pepper Octopus.

Our menu features a selection of steamed, stir-fried, and fried dishes, from delicate dumplings with succulent fillings to crispy spring rolls bursting with savoury goodness.
